Connect Bing Webmaster Tools

Give Kafkai read access to your site in Bing Webmaster Tools, so your AI agent can read your Bing search queries, pages, clicks, impressions and positions through Kafkai. All you do is add one email address — the Kafkai Bing reader address — as a Read only user of the site. You share no password, and Kafkai cannot change anything in Bing Webmaster Tools.

Bing is the second search engine in Japan with its own data tool, and its totals include the impressions your site gets in Copilot chat. It is the only place you can see that traffic.

Before you begin

  • You have a Kafkai project for the site.
  • You are an Administrator of the site in Bing Webmaster Tools. Only an administrator can add users.
  • The site in Bing Webmaster Tools covers the project's domain. A site such as https://example.com/ covers www.example.com, the http form and subdomains such as blog.example.com.

How this differs from Google Search Console

For you the steps are almost the same: verify the domain, add one address, ask your agent to fetch the data. Two things differ:

  • The address differs. Kafkai's Google reader and Kafkai's Bing reader are two accounts. Copy the Bing address from the Domains page, not the Google one.
  • The data differs. Bing reports its top queries and pages per week, not per day, and keeps only the top rows. Kafkai shows the latest week against the week before, labels every row as weekly, and never adds weekly rows up into a longer total. The daily totals are exact and cover every Bing surface, Copilot chat included.

1. Verify the domain in Kafkai

Open the Domains page in your Kafkai account. Add the TXT record shown there to the domain's DNS, then choose Check. If you cannot edit the domain's DNS — the site is on a hosted platform, say — add the meta tag shown on the same page to your site's <head> instead. You can also ask your agent: "Verify my domain in Kafkai." Verification is free. If you already verified the domain for Google Search Console, this step is done: one verification covers every data source.

Until the domain is verified, Kafkai returns nothing for it — not even whether a Bing site exists. For more on this, see Domain verification in the tool reference.

2. Copy the Kafkai Bing reader address

On the Domains page, copy the Kafkai Bing reader address. The address is the same for every domain and every project.

3. Open User management for the site

In Bing Webmaster Tools, select the site in the site menu at the top left (1 in the screenshot below). Then choose User management in the left menu (2). It is at the bottom of the menu, below the Security & Privacy heading.

The User management page in Bing Webmaster Tools, with four steps marked: 1 the site menu, 2 User management in the left menu, 3 the Add user button, 4 the Add user panel with the Kafkai Bing reader address, the Read only role and the access scope

4. Add the reader address with the Read only role

Choose Add user at the top right (3). The Add user panel opens (4). Fill it in:

  • Email: paste the Kafkai Bing reader address.
  • Select role: choose Read only. Do not choose any other role.
  • Access scope: leave the site address as it is.

Then choose Add at the bottom of the panel.

Read only is the lowest role in Bing Webmaster Tools. It lets Kafkai view the data and nothing else. Once you add the address, the Users and permissions list shows it with the Read only role.

5. Fetch the data

Kafkai does not watch your Bing account. It looks for the site only when you ask for the data. Ask your agent: "Update the Bing Webmaster data for my project in Kafkai." The agent calls kafkai_update_bing_webmaster. This call is free.

Kafkai finds the site and fetches everything Bing keeps for it. The fetch takes under a minute.

When you need newer data later, ask your agent the same thing again. Kafkai allows one fetch per day. A research run (kafkai_update_keywords) also refreshes the data and counts as that day's fetch, but a run uses credits, so you do not need one for Bing alone.

Check the connection

Ask your agent: "Is Bing Webmaster Tools connected for my Kafkai project?" The agent reads bing_webmaster.status from kafkai_get_project_summary:

Status Meaning
not_connected A step is missing. next_step_suggestion names it.
syncing Kafkai found the site and the first fetch has not finished.
ready The data is available.

When the status is ready, you can ask questions like "Which queries bring Bing clicks this week?" For the tools that read this data, see Bing Webmaster Tools in the tool reference.

If the status stays not_connected

  • The domain is not verified. Open the Domains page and choose Check. If the TXT record was removed, access stops until you add the record again.
  • The address has a typing error, or it is the Google address. Remove the user in Bing Webmaster Tools and paste the Bing address again from the Domains page.

Also check that your agent has called kafkai_update_bing_webmaster since you added the address. After a call that finds no site, Kafkai waits one minute before it looks again, so wait a minute between two calls.

Remove the access

To stop Kafkai from reading the site, open User management in Bing Webmaster Tools and remove the reader address from the Users and permissions list. From that moment, Kafkai can no longer read the site.
